A Little About Me
Crook County is and always has been my home. Even when I was away my heart was here. My family has owned a farm north of Prineville since the early 1900s. As a native of Crook County, I have watched our county become the great place it is today. I am a proud graduate of Crook County High School class of 1969. After high school, I attended Oregon State University and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Agriculture and minor in Agricultural Economics.
Following college, I worked for 19 years with a northwest lending organization that specialized in farms and ranches as a Branch Manager and Loan Officer. In 1987, I took over operation of the family farm and raised diversified crops including peppermint, garlic, alfalfa, sugar beets, and carrot seed to name a few. In 1992 I retired as a banker, began farming full time, and was elected as a Crook County Commissioner. Currently I am serving my fourth term as a commissioner, and I am an Oregon Licensed Real Estate Broker.
I have been married to my wife Jacquie for 33 years. I don't think you would find anyone who would disagree if you said she was my better half. Jacquie has worked for the Crook County High School Special Education program for eight years, as well as being an integral part of farming operations. We have two daughters who are products of the Crook County School District, as well as Oregon State University. I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to raise my family in this great county, and someday I hope to see my grandchildren play here as well.
My vision for Crook County is to maintain the integrity of our community while continuing to prosper. I think we all have our own reasons for calling Crook County home, and I want to make sure those attributes always exist. The natural beauty that surrounds us, and the small town atmosphere are some of the things I love most about Crook County and I want to preserve those. I think growth is inevitable because we live in such a desirable place, but I think that growth can be structured. I believe in conservative spending, while continuing to provide essential services to the community. In the coming years Crook County will continue to change, and I want to use my experience and ideas to come up with solutions to the challenges we face.
